2ND
PETER
CHAPTER
1
1
Simon Peter a seruaunte, and an Apostle of Iesus Christe, to them whyche haue
obtained lyke precyous faith wyth vs in the rightuousnes that commeth of oure
God and sauiour Iesu Christ.
2 Grace wyth you, and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Iesus
Christ oure Lorde.
3 Accordinge as hys godlye power hath geuen vnto vs al thinges that pertayne
vnto lyfe and godlines, thorowe the knowledge of him that hath called vs by
vertue & glory,
4 by the meanes, wherof are geuen vnto vs excellent and most great promises,
that by the helpe of them ye should be partakers of the godly nature, in that ye
flee the corruption of worldelye luste.
5 And herunto geue al diligence, in youre fayth, mynyster vertue, and in vertue
knowledge,
6 and in knowledge temperancie, and in temperauncie, pacience, in pacience,
Godlynes,
7 in Godlines brotherly kyndnes, in brotherlye kindnes, loue.
8 For yf these thinges be amonge you and are plenteous, they wyll make you, that
ye neyther shalbe ydle nor vnfruteful in the knowledge of oure Lord Iesu Christe.
9 But he that lacketh these thinges, is blind and gropeth for the waye with his
hand, and hath forgotten that he was pourged from his olde synnes.
10 Wherfore brethren, geue the more diligence for to make your callinge and
eleccion sure. For if ye do suche thinges, ye shal neuer erre.
11 Yea and by this meanes an entringe in, shalbe minystred vnto you aboundantlye
into the euerlastinge kingdome of oure Lorde and sauiour Iesus Christ.
12 Wherfore I wyll not be negligente to put you alwayes in remembraunce of such
thynges, though that ye knowe them your selues, and be also stablyshed in the
presente trueth.
13 Notwithstanding I thinke it mete, (as long as I am in this tabernacle) to
stere you vp by puttynge you in remembraunce
14 for as muche as I am sure how that the tyme is at hande, that I must put of
my tabernacle, euen as our Lord Iesus Christ hath shewed me.
15 I wil enforce therfore that on euerye syde ye myght haue wherwith to stere vp
the remembraunce of these thynges after my departinge.
16 For we folowed not deceiuable fables, when we opened vnto you the power and
comminge of our Lord Iesus Christ, but wyth our eyes we saw his maieste, euen
then verelye,
17 when he receiued of God the father honoure and glory, and when there came
such a voice to hym from the excellente glorie: This is my deare beloued sonne
in whome I haue delyte.
18 This voice we hearde when it came from heauen beynge wyth hym in the holy
mounte.
19 We haue also a ryght sure worde of prophesye, whervnto yf ye take hede, as
vnto a light, that shineth in a darcke place, ye do wel vntyll the daye dawne,
and the daye starre aryse in youre hertes.
20 So that ye fyrste knowe this, that no prophesye in the scripture hath any
priuate interpretacion.
21 For the scrypture came neuer by the wyl of man, but holye men of God spake as
they were moued by the holy ghoste.
CHAPTER
2
1
There were false prophetes among the people, euen as there shalbe false teachers
amonge you, which priuilie shal bringe in damnable sectes, euen denyenge the
Lorde that hath bought them and bringe vpon them selues swyft dampnacion,
2 and many shal folowe theyr damnable wayes, by whiche the way of trueth shalbe
euyl spoken of,
3 and thorowe couetousnes shal they wyth fayned wordes make marchaundyse of you,
whose iudgement is not farre of, and theyr dampnacion slepeth not.
4 For yf God spared not the aungels that sinned but cast them downe into hell,
and deliuered them into chayns of darckenes, to be kept vnto iudgement,
5 neyther spared the olde worlde, but saued Noe the ryght preacher of
rightuousnes, and brought in the floud vpon the worlde of the vngodly,
6 and turned the cyties of Sodom and Gomor into ashes, ouerthrowe them, dampned
them, and made on them an ensample vnto all that after shoulde lyue vngodly.
7 And iust Lot vexed with the vnclenly conuersacyon of the wicked, deliuered he.
8 For he beinge rightuouse and dwellinge amonge them, in seinge and hearinge,
vexed his rightuouse soule from daye to daye wyth theyr vnlawfull dedes.
9 The Lorde knoweth howe to deliuer the Godlye out of temptacion, and howe to
reserue the vniuste vnto the daye of iudgement for to be punyshed,
10 namely them that walke after the fleshe in the luste of vncleanes, and
despyse the rulars. Presumpteous are they, & stubborne and feare not to
speake euyl of them that are in authoritie.
11 When the angels which are greater both in power and might, receiue not of the
Lorde railing iudgement agaynste them.
12 But these as brute beastes naturallye made to be taken and destroyed, speake
euyll of that they knowe not, and shal perishe thorow their owne destruccion,
13 and receiue the reward of vnrightuousnes. They count it pleasure to lyue
deliciously for a season. Spottes they are and filthines, liuinge at pleasure,
and in disceiueable waies feastinge with you,
14 hauinge eyes full of aduoutrye, and that can not cease to synne, begilinge
vnstable soules. Hertes they haue exercised with couetousues. They are cursed
children,
15 and haue forsaken the ryght waye, and are gone astray folowing the waye of
Balam the sonne of Bosor, whiche loued the rewarde of vnrightuousnes,
16 but was rebuked of hys iniquitye. The tame and dome beaste, speakinge with
mannes voice, forbade the folishnes of the Prophete.
17 These are welles wythout water, & cloudes caried about of a tempest, to
whom the miste of darkenes is reserued for euer.
18 For when they haue spoken the swellinge wordes of vanitie, they begyle with
wantonnes thorowe the lustes of the fleshe, them that were cleane escaped, but
nowe are wrapped in errours.
19 They promis them libertie, and are them selues the bonde seruauntes of
corrupcyon. For of whomsoeuer a man is ouer come, vnto the same is he in
bondage.
20 For yf they, after they haue escaped from the fylthines of the worlde thorowe
the knowledge yf že Lord and of the sauiour Iesus Christe, are yet tangled
agayne therin and ouercome, then is the latter ende worsse wyth them then the
beginninge.
21 For it had bene better for them not haue knowen the way of rightuousnes then
after they haue knowen it to turne from the commaundementes geuen vnto them.
22 It is happened to them accordinge to the true prouerbe: The dogge is turned
to his vomet againe, and the sowe that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.
CHAPTER
3
1
This is the seconde epistle that I nowe wryte to you (beloued) wherwith I stere
vp & warne youre pure myndes, to cal to remembraunce
2 the wordes, which were tolde before of the holy prophetes, and also the
commaundementes of vs the apostles of the Lorde and sauiour.
3 This fyrst vnderstande, that there shall come in the laste dayes mockers,
which wyll walke after their own lustes
4 and say. Where is the promes of hys comminge? For sence the fathers dyed, al
thinges continue in the same estate, wherin they were at the beginninge.
5 This they knowe not (and that willinglie) howe that the heauens a greate whyle
ago were, & the earth that was in the water, appered vp out of the water by
the worde of God,
6 by the which thinges, the worlde that then was, perished ouer flowen with the
water.
7 But the heauens verely and earth, which are now are kept by the same worde in
store, and reserued vnto fyre, agaynste the daye of iudgemente, and perdycyon of
vngodlye men.
8 Dearly beloued, be not ignoraunt of thys one thinge, howe that one daye is
wyth the Lorde, as a thousande yeare, and a thousande yeare as one daye.
9 The Lord is not slacke to fulfyl hys promyse, as some men count slaknes, but
is patient to vsward and would haue no man loste, but would receyue al men to
repentaunce.
10 Neuertheles the daye of the Lord wyl come as a thiefe in the nyght in že
which daye, the heauens shal peryshe wyth terryble noyse, and the elementes shal
melte wyth heate, and the earth wyth the workes that are therin shal burne.
11 If al these thinges shal perishe, what maner persons ought ye to be in holye
conuersacyon and Godlynes:
12 lokynge for and hasting vnto the comminge of the daye of God, in which the
heauens shall perishe with fyre, & the elementes shalbe consumed wyth heat.
13 Neuertheles we loke for a new heauen and a newe earth, accordinge to his
promys, wherin dwelleth rygtuousnes.
14 Wherfore dearly beloued, seynge that ye loke for such thinges, be diligent
that ye may be found of hym in peace, wythout spotte and vndefyled
15 And suppose that the longe suffering of the Lord is saluacion, euen as oure
dearlye beloued brother Paule accordinge to the wysdome geuen to hym wrote vnto
you,
16 yea, almoste in euery epistle speakinge of such thinges, amonge whiche are
manye thinges harde to be vnderstande, which they that are vnlearned, and
vnstable, peruert, as they do other scriptures vnto their owne destruccion.
17 Ye therfore beloued, seynge ye knowe it before hand, beware lest ye be also
plucked away with the errour of the wycked, and fall from your own stedfastnes,
18 but grow in grace, and in the knowledge of oure Lorde and Sauiour Iesus
Christe. To whom be glorye both nowe and foreuer. Amen.
